What is a veterinary scale?

A veterinary scale is a weighing scale designed for weighing animals, and are most commonly used in veterinary practices. They can range from small animal scales for weighing hamsters, guinea pigs and mice, to weighing scales for cats and large dogs.

Larger scales in the Marsden vet scales range can also be used as livestock or farm scales.

Why should animals be weighed?

A pet’s weight can be the first and sometimes the only indicator of underlying health problems. Veterinary specialists say pet obesity is one of the most challenging issues they face. Animals with excessive weight can suffer breathing problems as their lungs must work harder to move their weight. Cats may develop hepatic lipidosis, a liver disease associated with obesity.

How do I know which veterinary scale to choose?

Each of the veterinary scales in the Marsden range is different, and which one you choose will depend on what you need from your scale.

Vet scales for small animals

For smaller pets choose scales with lower capacities, as these will give you more precise graduations. The Marsden V-22 is a small pet scale perfect for cats and small dogs, and provides readings as precise as to the nearest 5g.

Vet scales for cats and dogs

The Marsden V-100 is our most popular vet scale, perfect for weighing cats and dogs. It has a non-slip surface and a tare and hold function, with a clear digital weight display.

Vet scales for large animals

For larger pets, go for a larger animal scale with a bigger base and higher capacity such as the V-200, with its large platform, and indicator with a bracket for mounting to the wall.
