5 Great And Accurate Weighing Scales for Pharmacies
With the introduction of the NHS Community Pharmacist Consultations service in 2019, almost a third of a million health checks have now taken place in a local pharmacy. This is only expected to increase as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.
With this in mind we have put together a list of five digital weighing scales for pharmacies that are accurate and reliable. If you would like more information about the NHS Health Checks, please click here.
Due to the applications for pharmacy scales and balances it is essential that they comply with the Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI) Directive: they must be at least Class III Approved.
The consultation room scale: Marsden M-420 Adult Floor Scale
The Marsden M-420 is chosen by medical professionals around the world, because it’s lightweight, robust and easy to use. This scale is Class III Approved and MDD Approved, which means it's designed to be used to diagnose, prevent, monitor or treat. Not to mention, because of its size and weight, it’s portable and can be stored easily after use.
The M-420 has a capacity of 220kg and graduations as low as 50g under 150kg, and it’s covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty. It's also available with Bluetooth.
The entry-level consultation room scale: Marsden M-550 Stand on Floor Scale
The Marsden M-550 is the lowest-priced Class III Approved medical scale that we offer. It has a lower capacity than the M-430 and is also smaller in size. With an accuracy of 200g, the M-550 is actually up to five times more accurate than the traditional mechanical scales.
As with the M-420, the M-550 is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.
The additional revenue stream scale: Marsden MBF-6010 Body Composition Scale with Printer
The Marsden MBF-6010 would be the perfect scale to have in any pharmacy. Many people are keen to understand their body composition, not just their weight, because it’s a key indicator of body health. Places like Boots are already offering this service, which confirms that it’s a viable option.
With a coin box fitted customers would need to insert 50p in order for the scale to turn on, meaning that with every person that gets weighed, your pharmacy will earn a small profit.
The MBF-6010 is a column scale which makes it suitable for weighing patients of all ages as the weight is clearly displayed on a hip height indicator, rather than on a dial on the floor, making it easy to see.
As with our medical floor scales, the MBF 6-010 is also Class III Approved which means that it is suitable for use within medical environments and pharmacies. This scale comes with a printer attached, so that users can take their results home with them, and provides the following readings: body composition, basal metabolic rate (BMR), total body water (TBW), fat free mass (FFM), fat mass (FM), body fat percentage, weight and BMI.
The MBF-6010 is also covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.
The complete measuring station: Marsden M-100 Column Scale with Height Measure
The Marsden M-100 is a great choice for any pharmacy, due to its inbuilt height measure. The height measure can be used to measure height from 1.2m to 2m, in increments of 1mm. Column scales are a more convenient choice for weighing patients and, this premium scale offers weight, height and BMI all in one place. It also has a larger base, which is low profile to make it easier to get onto. Furthermore, fitting it in your pharmacy will be easy, thanks to its unique ‘corner’ design.
A version of the Marsden M-100 automatic height measure is also available, if you want to simplify the process even more. Both of these options are Class III Approved medical scales and can be future-proofed with the addition of Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity.
The prescription measurement scale: TW Series Class II Analytical Balance
When it comes to weighing prescriptions, it’s important your pharmacy scales are as precise as possible, and with graduations as low as 0.001g, the TW Series Balance is just that. This scale can make everyday weighing as easy as possible.
This Class II Approved high accuracy balance scale is designed to weigh small capacities and has an internal auto calibration. This is the lowest priced Approved balance scale in our range, but still provides consistent and accurate results.
All weight information recorded on this scale can be populated on a spreadsheet using the optional I/O RS-232 cable. The balance also comes with a weighing chamber big enough to house flasks to eliminate any external factors such as dust or drafts.
